Seismic and lateral analysis is where structural projects get stuck. Response spectrum setup, mass source definition, diaphragm modelling, story drift checks, irregularity classification: get any of it wrong and the error surfaces at authority review, not at design stage. RIH Engineering provides outsourced ETABS seismic analysis as a dedicated backend team for structural consultants in the UAE, the US and the Middle East.

What you get

  • Complete ETABS models with verified mass source, diaphragm definition and support conditions
  • Seismic analysis using ETABS: equivalent lateral force, response spectrum or time history as the structure requires
  • Story drift checks against code limits, with drift plots per level and per load case
  • Base shear verification and scaling, with the scaling calculation shown rather than buried
  • Structural irregularity assessment: torsional, soft storey, mass and vertical geometric
  • Modal analysis with mass participation verification so the model is defensible under review
  • Lateral load distribution, stability index and P-Delta assessment
  • Calculation report written for authority submission and third-party peer review

What we handle for you

The real cost of ETABS seismic work is not the run time, it is the iteration. Mass source wrong, rerun. Diaphragm not meshed properly, rerun. Mass participation under 90 percent, add modes and rerun. Drift fails on one level, resize, rerun the whole chain. A single mid-rise can swallow 40 to 80 hours in that loop.

We own that loop. You give us the geometry, the site seismic parameters and the code basis. We hand back a model that is verified before you see it, drift and base shear results that reconcile, and a calculation report structured so a reviewer can follow the logic without phoning you.

The cost of doing this in-house

Seismic analysis is the work most consultancies cannot delegate internally, so it lands on the two or three most expensive people in the practice. Those are the same people who should be winning work and reviewing designs. Twenty hours a week of ETABS iteration from a principal-level engineer is the most costly hour you can spend.

The sharper risk is at submission. A seismic model that will not stand up to authority or peer review comes back, and every week in that loop is a week the project does not progress and your client starts asking who else they could have used. Rework at review stage costs several times what the original analysis cost, and it costs reputation on top.

Why RIH Engineering is safe to try

Send us one structure. We deliver the ETABS model, the seismic analysis, the drift and base shear checks and the calculation report. You interrogate the model yourself, because we hand over the native file. If the assumptions are not what you wanted, we change them and rerun.

Under our dedicated resource model you get named engineers who learn your preferred modelling conventions and report format. The team behind this has 11+ years of EPC experience and 6,500+ designs delivered. Your reviewing engineer keeps approval authority on every package, always.

Our process

  1. You send the architectural and structural layout, site seismic parameters, soil class, and the governing code basis
  2. We confirm the analysis basis in writing: seismic parameters, importance factor, response modification factor, mass source and drift limits, for your approval
  3. ETABS model built with geometry, sections, diaphragms, supports and mass source defined
  4. Modal analysis run and mass participation verified before any design output is produced
  5. Seismic analysis run: response spectrum or time history as required, with base shear scaling calculated and shown
  6. Story drift checked level by level against code limits, and structural irregularities assessed and classified
  7. Member design and lateral system verification completed, with P-Delta and stability index checks
  8. Calculation report issued with the native ETABS model, formatted for authority submission and peer review

Tools and standards

We work in ETABS for seismic and lateral analysis across reinforced concrete, steel and composite buildings, covering response spectrum analysis, time history analysis, story drift verification, modal analysis and P-Delta assessment. STAAD.Pro is used where it suits the structure better.

Seismic and loading codes supported include ASCE 7-16, IBC, Eurocode 8 and IS 1893. For UAE projects the Dubai Building Code aligns wind and seismic loading with ASCE 7-16 and uses Dubai-specific loading parameters rather than generic values, and Abu Dhabi work follows ADIBC. We confirm which basis governs before modelling starts.

Client-preferred tools: Our team can be trained to use the tool preferred by the client. If your workflow depends on a specific platform, template or drafting standard, we adapt to it rather than force you into ours.
