Foundation design is unforgiving. It is the one part of the structure nobody can inspect or fix easily once it is in the ground, and it is where soil data, structural reactions and buildability all have to reconcile. RIH Engineering delivers outsourced foundation design as a dedicated backend team, from spread footings through to piled rafts and machine foundations.

What you get

  • Shallow foundation design: isolated footings, combined footings, strip footings and pedestals
  • Raft and mat foundation design with soil-structure interaction modelling
  • Pile design and pile cap design, including pile group analysis and load distribution
  • Settlement calculations, both immediate and consolidation, checked against serviceability limits
  • Bearing capacity verification against the geotechnical report, with the interpretation stated explicitly
  • Machine foundation design including dynamic analysis where equipment data requires it
  • Foundation design for warehouses, industrial sheds, water tanks, towers and equipment supports
  • Reinforcement drawings, foundation layouts and schedules ready for construction

What we handle for you

Foundation design looks simple until the soil report complicates it. Variable bearing strata, high water table, settlement-sensitive equipment, uplift from a light steel frame, or a geotechnical report that gives you a bearing pressure without saying at what settlement: each one turns a two-day job into a two-week one.

We handle that interpretation. You send the geotechnical report, the structural reactions and the layout. We come back with the foundation design, the settlement checks, a clear statement of how we read the soil report, and drawings. Where the geotechnical data is insufficient we tell you before we design, not after.

The cost of doing this in-house

Foundations are where over-design hides. Without time to optimise, engineers default to conservative bearing assumptions and oversized pads, and the cost lands in concrete volume, excavation and programme. On a mid-size industrial project that conservatism can add a meaningful percentage to the substructure cost, and nobody ever audits it because the building stands up.

Under-resourcing carries the opposite risk, which is worse. A settlement issue or a bearing failure is not a rework item, it is a liability event with your name on the calculations. Foundation design is the last place in a structural practice where it makes sense to be short of engineer hours, and it is the first place that happens when the team is stretched.

Why RIH Engineering is safe to try

Send us one project. We deliver the foundation design with calculations, settlement checks and drawings, and a written statement of how we interpreted the soil report so you can challenge it. You review. If our reading of the geotechnical data differs from yours, we discuss it and redesign to your position.

Under our dedicated resource model, named engineers learn your standard foundation details and your preferred level of conservatism. Your reviewing engineer retains approval authority on every package. The team has 11+ years of EPC experience and 6,500+ delivered designs behind it.

Our process

  1. You send the geotechnical investigation report, structural reactions, column and wall layout, and the governing code basis
  2. We review the soil report and issue a written interpretation covering bearing capacity, settlement parameters, water table and any data gaps, for your agreement
  3. Foundation type selected and justified: shallow, raft or piled, with the reasoning documented rather than assumed
  4. Foundation sizing carried out against bearing capacity, with eccentricity, overturning and sliding checked
  5. Settlement analysis completed, immediate and consolidation, and verified against serviceability limits
  6. Structural design of the foundation elements completed, including pile caps and raft reinforcement where applicable
  7. Reinforcement drawings, foundation layout and schedules drafted in AutoCAD to your standards
  8. Package issued with calculations, drawings and the soil interpretation note, for your review

Tools and standards

We design foundations using STAAD.Pro and ETABS for superstructure reactions and soil-structure interaction, SAFE for raft and mat foundation analysis, and AutoCAD for drawings.

Foundation and concrete design is delivered to ACI 318-19, BS EN (Eurocode 2 and 7), BS 8110 or IS 456 as the project requires. For UAE projects this matters more than usual: the Dubai Building Code adopts US codes and standards for the structure but BS EN for geotechnics, so foundation work sits across both. We state the governing basis for each element at design basis stage so nothing is ambiguous at submission.

Client-preferred tools: Our team can be trained to use the tool preferred by the client. If your workflow depends on a specific platform, template or drafting standard, we adapt to it rather than force you into ours.
