Rebar Detailing and Bar Bending Schedule Services

Rebar detailing is the highest-volume, lowest-judgement work in a structural practice, and it is the work most likely to delay a pour. Every bar needs a mark, a shape code, a cutting length, a lap and a quantity. Get one schedule wrong and the steel arrives wrong. RIH Engineering delivers outsourced rebar detailing and bar bending schedules as a dedicated backend production team.

What you get

  • Complete bar bending schedules with bar marks, shape codes, cutting lengths, lap lengths and quantities
  • Reinforcement detailing drawings for slabs, beams, columns, walls, foundations and staircases
  • Two-way slab and one-way slab bar bending schedules
  • Lap length and development length calculated to the governing code, not assumed from a standard table
  • Steel quantity take-off by element, by level and by diameter, for procurement and cost control
  • US rebar detailing to ACI and CRSI conventions where the project requires it
  • Tekla rebar detailing and 3D reinforcement models where clash-free coordination is needed
  • Schedules issued in your format, whether that is your Excel template, PDF or a direct export

What we handle for you

Rebar detailing is pure throughput. A single floor plate can carry several hundred bar marks, and the work is identical every time: read the design, mark the bars, calculate cutting lengths, apply laps, tabulate, check, issue. It is exactly the work that should not sit with a designer, and in most practices it does.

We run it as a production line. You send the reinforcement design and your detailing standards. We return the schedules and the drawings, checked, in your format. If you want the reinforcement modelled in Tekla rather than scheduled in 2D, we do that instead, and you get a clash-free model as well as the schedule.

The cost of doing this in-house

Detailing is where the hours go without anyone tracking them. A medium commercial building generates thousands of bar marks across its floors, and at typical rates that is a five-figure cost buried inside a design fee that was priced for design, not production.

Then there is the site cost, which is larger and lands on your client. A schedule error means the wrong steel on site, a delayed pour, and a crew standing around. That bill does not come to you as money, it comes as a phone call, and it is the kind of thing that decides whether you are on the next project. Detailing errors are remembered far longer than they take to fix.

Why RIH Engineering is safe to try

Send us one floor. We deliver the bar bending schedule and the reinforcement drawings against an agreed date, in your format. You check the schedule against your design. If anything is off, we correct it and reissue at no cost.

Our dedicated resource model means named detailers assigned to your account who learn your bar mark conventions, your lap length policy, your drawing standards and your schedule template. After two or three projects they are working to your standards without being asked. That consistency is what makes detailing safe to outsource.

Our process

  1. You send the reinforcement design drawings, your detailing standards and your bar bending schedule template
  2. We confirm the detailing basis in writing: code for lap and development lengths, bar mark convention, shape code standard and cover requirements
  3. Reinforcement detailing drafted element by element, following your drawing and layer standards
  4. Bar marks assigned and cutting lengths calculated to the agreed code, with laps and anchorage applied consistently
  5. Bar bending schedule compiled with marks, shape codes, diameters, lengths, quantities and weights
  6. Steel quantity take-off produced by element, level and diameter for procurement use
  7. Internal check carried out against the design drawings, bar by bar, before anything is issued
  8. Schedules and drawings issued in your format for your review and approval

Tools and standards

We produce rebar detailing in AutoCAD, RCDC for automated reinforced concrete detailing output, and Tekla Structures for 3D reinforcement modelling and clash-free coordination. Schedules are issued in your preferred format, including your own Excel template.

Detailing conventions supported include ACI and CRSI for US rebar detailing, BS 8666 shape codes, BS EN (Eurocode 2) and IS 2502. For UAE projects we detail to the Dubai Building Code basis, which aligns concrete design with ACI 318-19, and to ADIBC for Abu Dhabi.

Client-preferred tools: Our team can be trained to use the tool preferred by the client. If your workflow depends on a specific platform, template or drafting standard, we adapt to it rather than force you into ours.
